The Passing of Sid Norwood, Veterans Outreach for Phoenix

It is with sadness to report that our colleague Sidney (Sid) Wayne Norwood passed away on January 20, 2022 at the age of 73.

As a former Marine, Sid was part of Healing Arizona Veterans team, providing outreach and support to those veterans being treated at Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy of Arizona in Phoenix. He helped make the veterans comfortable with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in order to gain the full benefit of such treatment.

In addition to being a valued member oh the Healing Arizona Veterans, he made a difference in may other ways including his 30 year service in with the fire department. His obituary is below:

Sidney Wayne Norwood passed away of respiratory failure in Phoenix on January 20, 2022 at the age of 73, leaving a host of loving relatives and friends.

Sid was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 5, 1948. Sid was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corp between 1966 and 1970, he served two tours in Vietnam. While serving Sid received several medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/5*, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart for combat wounds. After completing his tours in Vietnam, Sid transferred to the reserves until 1972.

Sid joined the Phoenix Fire Department on August 26, 1974, and served until May 26, 2004; he served as a Captain from June 7, 1999 until he retired May 26, 2004. While on the Fire Department he completed just short of a masters degree in fire science. Much of the time while on the fire department he held three jobs to support his family.

Sid was committed to community support. He served as Treasurer then President of Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club, Chapter 113. This organization raised about 1.2 Million dollars for the children’s burn camp held annually in Prescott, Arizona.

Every Christmas the Norwoods, Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club and Scottsdale Elite Networking adopted single parent families or elderly individuals “to make them have a Christmas to remember.” He and his wife Lori continue to support those less fortunate.

Sid was an avid golfer and sportsman, he scored 11 holes in one in his golfing career. He also enjoyed poker, roulette and any kind of competition.

Sid is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Klauber-Norwood, stepdaughter Kelly Ann Klauber, stepson Perry Thomas Klauber, daughter Julie Chrisman and her husband Aaron, their children Nathan and Nicholas Chrisman, son Michael Norwood, granddaughter Sky Oxberger and her two children and Jamie Hemingway. He was predeceased by his daughter, Michelle Hemingway.

Sid was loved by many and will be sorely missed. He will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
