While working in Alaska Dr. Carol Henricks unexpectedly passed away on October 1, 2025.
Carol Henricks, M.D. recently traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to help organize a regional medical network using Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) with other adjunctive therapies for patients, especially military veterans with brain trauma pathologies of wounds and diseases of the Central Nervous System. She was especially interested in using hyperbaric oxygen to treat her patients, minimizing the polypharmacy complications of multiple drug regimens. She had a special relationship with her patients and their families treating a wide range of diseases.
Shortly after starting her medical practice with her husband Michael Maxwell in NW Tucson, AZ, Dr. Carol began using HBOT to treat patients aged one year to ninety years. She also began treating military veterans returning from the Middle East and Africa with the signature wounds of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), with the associated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This HBOT treatment was very successful when used with adjunctive therapies such as lifestyle changes, supplements, neurofeedback, etc.
Early on, it became obvious that our young military veterans had the very serious wounds of brain injury at the time in their lives when they could least be able to pay for the treatment. During the first few years of her practice, Dr. Carol stepped up and treated veterans without charge, absorbing the cost herself. Charlie Spillar was involved with Dr. Carol’s efforts at the beginning. He was eventually joined by Sa’ad Allawi and Rick Chimblo of the Oro Valley Rotary Club who saw the need for a charitable foundation. With Dr. Carol they organized and founded Healing Arizona Veterans Foundation (HAV) in 2017. They have been strongly advocating for our wounded veterans since then.
The vast majority of Dr. Henricks treated veterans were able to ease back into their communities, keep their families together, remain employable, even contribute to local Veterans’ and Charity groups in Arizona. A number of successfully treated veterans have worked in the clinic in support of the patients and Dr. Carol’s life mission. She loved her calling, her patients and veterans.
Dr. Carol Henricks, M.D. was well trained in the medical sciences, passing information and treatment on selflessly to her brain injured patients. We can all learn from her lifelong testimony of her professional, loving medical care. She was a true Physician/Servant and will be greatly missed.
